The color of the Diamond is Red because of the presence of nitrogen along with the physical deformation of the crystal known as Plastic Deformation which causes the color change. Red Diamonds are also achieved by irradiation and controlled annealing but that is rare to achieve.
Colored Diamonds also called the Fancy Colored Diamonds and amongst all the Red Diamond is the rarest one. It was surveyed that out of the 12 Red Diamonds which has been discovered uptil now only 5 or less than 5 are above 5 Cts.

Some of the famous Red Diamonds are

  • The largest is the Trillion Cut Moussaieff Red at 5.11 carats. Originally known as “Red Shield” It was found in a farm in Brazil and it weighed around 13.9 carats in the rough.

  • Kazanjian Red is around 5.05 Cts

  • The 0.59-carat diamond known as the Rob Red after its owner, Mr. Robert Bogel. It was found in the alluvial deposit of the remote interior of Brazil.

  • Some unknown facts about the Kazanjian Red:
Kazanjian Red was found in the Diamond field of South Africa weighing around 35 Cts in its rough form.  The piece was send to Netherlands for cleaving and polishing and where the master cutter took around 7 months to get the final Emerald cut of the Red Diamond. The first sight of the diamond amazed the cutter because it gave an extraordinary red tinge of the color. It seemed as if a drop of blood just spilt from the cutters finger. The color of the diamond makes it extraordinary and now is the shine of the Los Angeles Natural History Museum.
